Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) - An Overview
     
Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) is an under graduate diploma programme in the field of Pharmacy which enables a candidate to know the basic concepts of pharmaceutical science. After the completion of D.Pharm course, the candidate become "Registered Pharmacist" and have a huge career scope both in government as well as private organizations and in Pharmacy shops .D.Pharm in India is regulated by PCI and DME.

Career and Higher Studies after D.Pharm
     
After finishing Diploma in pharmacy successfully, the candidate can be registered as pharmacist by PCI (pharmacy council of India) and will be eligible for the license to open a medical store & the person can practice as registered pharmacist.
     In the country, there are a lot of companies in the pharmaceutical sector which provides job opportunities to the D.Pharm candidates. They can work as medical transcriptionist, technical supervisor, pharmacist, quality analyst, medical representative, production executive, scientific officer in private firms. Other areas include Indian railways, Air India, Indian army etc. The diploma holders will get job openings in Government as well as private sector in India and abroad.
     A D.Pharm holder can opt for B.Pharm lateral entry (admission to Second year B.Pharm,)

D.Pharm - The Course
     
The college offers two years D.Pharm. course with advanced class rooms and teaching aids, laboratories and library with cyber support. The students are guided by well experienced faculty members.

Eligibility for Admission

     Candidate who have passed the Higher Secondary Exam (+2) of the Kerala State with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics as optional Subjects and equivalent thereto are eligible to apply.
                                                                      OR
     V.H.S.C of Kerala from 1994-95 session with Group A and B only are considered as equivalent exam for admission to D.Pharm course. (Group A - N.C.E.R.T syllabus in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Group B - N.C.E.R.T syllabus in Physics, Chemistry and Biology)

Selection Criteria
     Out of 60 seats available, 50% of seats will be merit seats and it will be filled up according to rank as per the merit list prepared on the basis of marks obtained for Physics & Chemistry at the qualifying examination. The remaining 50% will be management seat. Selection & Admission to Management Quota for D.Pharm course will be done according to rank as per the merit list prepared on the basis of marks obtained for Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Mathematics of the qualifying examination.

Duration
     The course will extend over a period of two academic years with each academic year spread over a period of not less than one hundred and eighty working days. There shall be an examination in the first year on the subjects of Part-I and an examination in the second year comprising the Part-II subjects. The course of study for D.Pharm Part-1 and D.Pharm part-II shall include the subjects as given in below.

Part –I Subjects
1. Pharmaceutics
2. Pharmaceutical Chemistry
3. Pharmacognosy
4. Human Anatomy & Physiology
5. Social Pharmacy

Part – II Subjects
1. Pharmacology & Toxicology
2. Community Pharmacy & Management
3. Biochemistry & Clinical Pathology
4. Pharmacotherapeutics
5. Hospital and Clinical Pharmacy
6. Pharmacy Law & Ethics

Practical Training
     On successful completion of the course, the candidate will have to undergo 500 hours of practical training spread over a period of not less than 3 months in a Govt. Hospital or recognized institute approved for the purpose by Pharmacy Council of India.
